CW+ offers a grants programme that funds projects helping Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust staff deliver better patient experience and care.
As part of this programme, the Charity awards grants of up to £50,000 for projects that promote new clinical innovations, services, facilities and technologies, including pilots to develop business cases in the Trust.
Past bids have included:
- New therapy and rehab equipment for the Stroke Unit at West Middlesex University Hospital to allow an increase in one-to-one therapy intensity, more group exercise classes, and self-practice and family practice.
- Development of 3D holograms for use in outpatient consultations to improve communication and patient understanding of complex gynaecological conditions such as deep invasive endometriosis and multiple uterine fibroids. Using MRI and CT imaging, photorealistic holograms will be created and viewed through existing HoloLens augmented reality headsets, enabling patients to visualize their anatomy and surgical options interactively.
The programme will not consider applications related to applications from individuals for personal welfare or entertaining.
Application process
Awards are up to £50,000. Funding over that amount would need to be sourced either from the Trust, externally or a special fund. The approval process is as follows:
- Endorsement by Divisional Director and Finance Business partner at the time of submission. You are also required to check with all relevant teams (Infection Control, IG, IT, medical equipment, procurement etc) when necessary – we will ask you to provide us with confirmation of endorsement from these groups.
- Endorsement from CEO Cabinet and Exec Board at the Trust – at least three weeks before the Grants Committee meeting.
- Present the proposal to the CW+ Grants Committee. These meetings are scheduled quarterly. Get in touch with the Grants Team for more information.
Applicant responsibilities
Applicants are responsible for assuring that application proposals:
- comply with all internal Trust procedures especially with regard to IT, IG, Finance and Procurement. Any project funded by CW+ must still comply with Trust procedures ahead of receiving funding.
- reflect well-substantiated needs and requests that align with Trust priorities. CW+ encourages the use of patient and/or staff surveys substantiating the proposed project value and need.
- place emphasis on describing problem, solution and impact clearly and, where possible, quantitively.
- are endorsed by your area Head of Department, Divisional Director and Trust Finance as required in the application.
- provide a detailed financial sustainability plan after the funding runs out, if and when applicable.
